Services
Anxiety
Living with anxiety is exhausting. It can grip our mind and body with a vague, unspecified fear. Together we will look beneath the fear and worry to seek the God of Peace and his will.
Depression
Addiction
Depression can leave us unable to find purpose and pleasure in life. Although difficult circumstances may not change, empathic and compassionate counseling can help you find the courage to process sadness. Together we will move toward the God who hears, cares and speaks words of hope and healing.
Whether it is substance abuse, sexual struggles, social media, or something else, addiction is enslaving. Although, it isn't the problem, but the symptom. There is something beneath the surface: a reason for the unwanted thoughts and behaviors. Exploring these can lead to healing and freedom as we see God's presence, love, and forgiveness in our stories. Jack's journey in counseling began as he struggled with addiction over 25 years ago. He is thankful to have had the privilege of coming alongside many others in this same process of healing, hope, and freedom.
Child and Adolescent Therapy
Throughout my 15 years in education I have worked with students of all ages. This has helped me gain an understanding into the developmental levels of children and adolescents. As a counselor, this allows me to approach them in ways that help them feel comfortable expressing themselves, such as play, art, or music, and develop confidence.
Pre-Marital & Marriage
Whether engaged or married, each season in the journey of marriage has its blessings and challenges. Together we will explore the purpose of marriage and how it provides lasting hope for all couples. Husbands and wives can grow closer to one another as God's kindness, love, and forgiveness leads each of them through personal change.
Trauma
At times God lets overwhelming events touch our lives. You may have asked why would a loving God allow this? He hears these questions. Scripture says, he weeps with us in our pain. Whether it is a recent trauma or something in the far past, these events can effect how we think and feel on a daily basis. In therapy, Jack seeks to build trust through creating a safe setting where vulnerability and healing can happen.
Adventure Counseling
In addition to a tradition office setting, Murphy Counseling offers outdoor experiential therapy such as trail walking, kayaking, and fishing. These activities provide unique experiences for reflection, processing, and the development of new coping skills.

According to Mayo Clinic Press "Research indicates that exposure to nature can be an effective coping strategy for those with chronic mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)." This research also demonstrates how spending time in nature can improve mood, lower anxiety, and improve cognition and memory.

Additionally, Medicalnewstoday.com states that "physical activity is 1.5 times more effective at reducing mild-to-moderate symptoms of depression, psychological stress, and anxiety than medication or cognitive behavior therapy."
